New Season seal count
9th November 2023
What a lovely day for the new season count to get underway, fine weather but a very cold breeze. The Somerton counters got to see a Red Kite on the way to groyne 52 and the Waxham counters saw a herd of Red Deer. At groyne 30 there is a very rare albino harbour seal pup, this is the second seen this year. Jean and Angela did the Winterton count and also checked the chestnut fence, reporting back that Natural England have done a good job of repairing it. They noted all the seals are up in the groynes with 50+ on the beach surfside of groyne 59. There are over 230 adults, unfortunately there are three dead pups but on a positive note there are three healthy live Newborns, all with mums around the area at the top of groyne 53 by the flood defences.
