14th December 2023
Stunning sunrise this morning across Horsey before the count started with some amazing colours, first highlight was a large herd of red deer on the entrance to Horsey.
Winterton started overcast for the count but brightened up by seeing Peter with a film crew! They followed the counters up to G59, although the paths around here still have nursing mums and bulls with lots of weaned around, and Jean ended up doing a short interview about how to count seals in our very hi-tech way!
The seals are where they have been for the last few weeks, with a new addition who is our first melanistic pup of the season. Seals in and around all the gaps and more being born on track from the huts near the carpark to Diamond Gap. Opposite the old lighthouse there are around 38 adults and 40 pups, then about 2/3rds of the way to Hemsby there is a group of 15 adults and 12 pups.
Finally, a lovely sight of adult seals playing at being hippos in a deep puddle on back track to Somerton. What a way to finish the count!
This week the counters have provided some individual Figures for Winterton
