Marian Dempsey
Policies & Procedures
Marian joined the committee in 2026 with a key focus on policies and welcomes the opportunity to join the board of trustees for the good of the charity objectives. Marian was born and raised in the Midlands and always longed to live by the sea. During the 70s Marian spent many happy family holidays at Winterton-on-Sea, Norfolk and she never saw a single seal on the beach.
Marian’s early working life was spent in the pathology department of the National Health Service (NHS) until she realised she wanted to follow a career in health, safety and risk management. Her professional career included roles in Local Authority, Education, Charity Sector, Housing and the NHS as a chartered safety and health practitioner.
Marian relocated to Norfolk in 2021 where she joined the Friends of Horsey Seals as a volunteer seal warden. We’re pleased to report that since volunteering Marian has not just seen seals on the beach, she has counted and rescued them as a member of our count and rescue teams.
Marian enjoys mentoring new wardens and engaging with the visiting public. People travel to see the seals from far and wide and Marian is more than keen to impart knowledge about seals to anyone who wants to listen.
